Facial massage has been huge in Korea for the past couple of years. I personally did not really discover till recently after getting obsessed with making my face look as slim as possible (cue my asian diet too).
Losing excess weight and maintaining a low sodium style healthy diet can really benefit and slim down your face. However whenever we pursue any activity like this we need to keep in mind that it will not change our face structure, however it will help us achieve the smallest face we can achieve 🙂 Similar to enhancing our looks! As I mentioned in my previous post, having a low sodium diet can reduce the bloating and fluid retention on our face and body and can lead to a slimmer face 🙂 In addition our facial massage technique actually further helps us remove excess bloating and toning up and firming any saggy skin around our cheeks that can contribute to a rounder or bigger face.
Initially I felt that massaging my face will lead to premature wrinkles because I’m pulling and tugging at my skin, and you actually can damage your skin too so you need to make sure you use a proper massage oil or similar so that there is as llittle friction as possible in the process.
I use the Pure Fiji Exotic massage oil, how ever some other generic and affordable suggestions include Olive oil and other essential oils. Another great alternative is an oil cleanser. If you really don’t have access to this you may use your moisturiser, but make sure it doesn’t evaporate too quickly and remember to reapply when it does, but I still don’t recommend this. For those with Acne prone skin, I have heard face gel is a great alternative to the oil, which may break you out.
Also if you don’t have a spoon, you can use a tool like this Unicorn Face Massager to scrape your face. This is what I’ve been using recently and I love that fact that it’s hand crafted and made from real gemstones. It feels like a great solid piece and I love using it!!

Can I use my moisturiser for this?
Yes you can but you need to make sure it gives you enough “slip” so that no friction is placed on your skin and damaging it. I would advise you to try olive oil or other skin friendly oils like Rosehip oil or vitamin E oil.
Is this permanent or temporary?
This is a temporary solution to get rid of bloating, and after long periods of not massaging fluid will continue to build up and also the toning effect may disappear. To maintain results its advisable to include this in your regular skin care regime 🙂
Can I use a plastic spoon or metal spoon instead?
No! Please don’t these spoons have sharper edges and may actually damage your skin and cause more harm then good! Please be careful when using spoons that have sharp edges.!
Does this cause wrinkles?
If doe properly (don’t tug too hard, just be firm, using the right product to maintain no friction towards the skin) it will actually be anti-aging. It will increase blood circulation and remove toxins which is overall better for your skin and prevent wrinkles 🙂
