Top 3 Korean Beauty Trends of 2013

Now that another year has gone by, my favourite thing to do is actually to look back at the past year and pick my highlights. Beauty highlights that is!! I personally don’t even remember what I did last weekend so looking back at my own life without a diary is completely futile, but the top Korean beauty trends have not escaped my memories!

Priorities right?
So here is my top 3 favourite Korean beauty trends of 2013 that I simply can’t live without even in 2014!

Trend 1: Ulzzang Style Puppy Eyeliner

My favourite trend will have to be the long Ulzzang style eyeliner or “puppy style eyes”. This particular shape of eyeliner is so adroable and makes your face so cute and pretty!!

The main points of this eyeliner look is the length and the slight droopyness it gives your eyes. Also nicknamed the puppy eye because its got the cute forlorn expression puppies do that you can’t resist.

I have loved this trend so much that I have a whole series of eyeliner tutorials that follow this puppy eye ulzzang trend shape.

Trend 2: Ombre Gradient Lips

I’m so happy to have finally found a lip trend that makes my lips look smaller! I’ve always have been “blessed” with full lips, and although over time they have thinned out due to loss of volume, thank you mother nature and her aging process, they are still quite full. For those of you that have always coveted full lips feel free to be tempted to slap me, but we always want what we don’t have right :)??

The gradient lip look blurs out the edge of your lip line and then concentrates the colour only in the inner portion of your lips. These are supposed to mimic the natural lip colors of children and youth, giving you a younger look. It also creates what we call a “rose bud” lip effect that you see on porcelain dolls ๐Ÿ™‚

These have become a staple lip style amongst all the celebrity make up artists in Korea.

Trend 2: Thick Natural Straight Brows

Ok so how can we finish off the 2013 list without my favourite eyebrow shape?

 The straight eyebrow.
Although not exclusive to Koreans, this trend was made popular when all the kpop stars started wearing these straight eyebrows. It gave their face a very soft and innocent look, something I have wanted for a long time since I was 14.
Although arched brows look very fierce and sexy, the straight eyebrow makes you look young and innocent, like you couldn’t even hurt a fly. It also framed puppy shaped eyes better than the arched brow.

These brows have become so popular amongst the Kpop celebrities they have been nicknamed “kpop” brows. The style is also so recognisable that as soon as I started wearing this shape of brow I’ve been mistaken as Korean more times in my life than ever before. The first time was after I died my hair a light brown when I was in high school.

These brows are a distinct Korean trend of 2013!

Goo Hara looks so cute with her natural straight brows
Tae Yeon looks so soft and beautiful with her soft straight brows
Of course Miranda has been making the straight brow look proud since birth ๐Ÿ˜‰

I could mention a few more trends I love but that would be greedy of me!! I’m really excited to see what trends are going to become big in Korea in 2014!
This doesn’t mean I can’t still enjoy the classics from 2013, I can’t see myself abandoning any of the above styles any time soon ๐Ÿ™‚
What were your favourite Korean trends of 2013?? Are there any that you still wear on a regular basis :)???
Can’t wait to hear from you!!
Love you lots ๐Ÿ™‚

All the trends really contribute to the cute factor. My favorite would be the ombre gradient lip, but too bad it looks weird on me. D:
